Training Plan

My friend Reina sent me a training plan she used for her first half marathon.  I adapted it to go for a few more weeks so that I could get use to more cardio.  As you can see it starts on Monday which means... I get a few more days of laziness.  Also this plan works great for Lincoln's school schedule.  I can run after he goes off to school and do cross training (XT) early in the AM like I already do.  Sundays might be hard with the long runs with him, but I have good friends that I am sure will help me out with this... hint, hint.  Here it is!

RACE DAY!!!

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

First of all, I have never blogged, so I hope you are expecting a ton of run on sentences and nothing real witty.  I would like to note that unlike a written journal this one has a check spelling button!  Love that.

How did this all come about?  I am sure you might be wondering, as I still am.  Well it started with an email from my husband, Scott.   He mentioned he was going to do a marathon with some of the guys he works with.  He also said and I quote "You are more than welcome to train with me, or even participate."
I laughed to myself, thinking "Let me get back to that one later..."

The same day I got an email from one of the most sweetest people I know, Mrs. Élan Rashap.  She said her husband was doing the marathon (same one Scott is doing) and that she had bit the bullet and signed up for the half-marathon and would any of us ( Officer Spouses) like to join her.  I replied yes.  A few days later I went online, and signed up Scott for the full marathon, and myself for the half-marathon.   It seemed like a good idea to me.

Yesterday I went to boot-camp at 5:30 am, I mentioned to my boot-camp instructor (Jake Glaze) that I signed up for the half-marathon.  He lovingly said something along the lines of, "That's Crazy."  Which I know was not a "I would never do that" kind of comment, more of a "Denise, you hardly have gotten to boot-camp the last several weeks OR bought a heavier dumb bell weight, what the hell were you thinking?"  Now, Jake is pretty much as kind as I think it can get for a boot-camp instructor.  He's pretty silly, but he doesn't really bullshit you either.  He made me realize I better get to training now and NOT wait for someone else to throw an award winning training plan my way.  So, I bought a book.  "The Non Runner's Marathon Guide for Women: Get off Your Butt and On with Your Training." Another side note, I have no idea when you are writing the title of a book if you do quotations or underline, so I figure I will cover all the bases.  College is long forgotten.  Feel free to re-educate me.

I read 50 pages of it yesterday, and laughed while my heart started racing.  Today, I am sore from boot-camp from yesterday and thinking "This is crazy."  Having said that, I realize although it might be crazy it's not impossible.  It's only 13.1 miles right?  Ha!

I will go to bed tonight dreaming of an awesome sports bra, and crossing the finnish line BEFORE there is no more finish line to cross.  I hope you enjoy my journey and my lack of writing skills does not drive you crazy.  If you don't read it just pretend you did when you talk with me.  It will make me feel like people are watching me and if I don't follow through I am failing them too.  Seriously.
